 Cactus Sunburn

How do I treat my Cactus if it has suffered from Sunburn? It has turned from green to a reddish brown colour from the base to three quarters of the way up, yet is still hard to the touch, but has a flaky white film on the surface.
I have had this Cactus for nearly years and I don't want to lose it. Can you help?
